Did You Know?
If Cupid pointed his arrow at the center of this
month, he’d hit Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14.
Also during February, you’ll come across Groundhog
Day (Feb. 2), Lincoln’s Birthday (Feb. 12), the federal
observance of Washington’s birthday (Feb. 18), Washington’s
actual Birthday (Feb. 22), National Black History Month
and, finally, an extra day due to Leap Year (Feb. 29).

Word
for February: Relationships
Officially, the word “relationship” is
defined as “a particular type of condition existing
between people related to or having dealings with each other.”
On Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, “relationship”
takes on a deeper, sweeter meaning. More than a simple, day-to-day
connection, a loving relationship has elements of giving,
receiving and compromising. When we love, we care about fulfilling
someone else’s needs. We appreciate what the other person
has done for us. Finally, we are willing to sacrifice our
own selfish tendencies and meet our loved ones at least halfway.
Warm regards to those celebrating their relationships on Feb.
14.
Star Observer
The great astronomer and mathematician Galileo Galilei
was born Feb. 15, 1564. He made observations with his telescope
that the earth was not the center of the universe and, instead,
proclaimed the sun was the center. Many found his ideas ludicrous
but, after his death, he was finally proven correct.

February’s Seasonal Selections
Do you smell it, feel it or weigh it? You should.
Use these tips to identify the best-quality fruits and veggies
currently in
season:
- Grapefruits and oranges: Should be heavy, and you should
be able to feel sections through the skin.
- Cabbage: Should be firm and somewhat shiny and bright
in color.
- Lemons: Should be about 3 inches from tip to stem, heavy
and give slightly when pressed.
